Faculty Senate reviews draft tenure proposal

October 6, 2015 By Greg Bump

The Faculty Senate on Monday held the first reading on a draft proposal for tenure protections, crafted to respond to recent legislative changes.

The proposal is expected to come to a vote at the next Faculty Senate meeting on Nov. 2. Faculty members may offer amendments to the policy proposal at the Nov. 2 meeting. The tenure policy would also need approval from the UW System Board of Regents.

The University Committee presented the draft and outlined changes that will be made based on the feedback from three listening sessions, in submitted written suggestions, and from Monday’s meeting, and will reorganize and clarify the policy and draft a final proposal. The revised draft will be distributed to faculty prior to the next Faculty Senate meeting.

“We want this document to reflect the will of the faculty,” says Professor Dorothy Farrar-Edwards, who chaired the committee that drafted the proposal.

Please send comments on the proposal to the Secretary of the Faculty (sof@secfac.wisc.edu) by Friday, Oct. 9.
