Exercise your mind on a UW alumni biking adventure

May 1, 2002

Take a new spin on learning with the Wisconsin Alumni Lifelong Learning’s Alumni Biking Adventure. Enjoy the natural beauty and scenic landscape of Dane County’s bike trails during this educational weekend on June 14-15.

Tim Gattenby from the Department of Kinesiology will present hands-on lectures on essential biking topics. Discussions will include achieving the best bicycle fit and evaluating safety features on your own bike. Gattenby will also lead the group on a tour of the popular Military Ridge Trail in the Madison area. This is an excellent adventure for biking enthusiasts of all experience levels.

“So many students learn to depend on their bikes as a primary form of transportation while they are on campus,” notes WAA’s president and CEO Paula Bonner. “This program is a fun and educational way for our alumni to continue to deepen a passion they developed while at UW–Madison.”

Leisure riders can enjoy the Military Ridge Trail at their own pace. Advanced riders may choose to follow instructor Tim Gattenby on part of the loop that will be included in the Ironman North America race in September.

The cost of the program is $125 per person. WAA members receive a $5 discount. This fee includes program materials, instruction, expert consultation, a T-shirt, parking and designated meals. Companions not participating in the ride or the program may join for $95 per person, which includes meals and a T-shirt.

Accommodations are available at the Fluno Center for $135 per night, single, and $155 per night, double, including taxes. Participants are asked to make reservations individually by calling toll-free (877) 77-FLUNO (773-5866).

Wisconsin Alumni Lifelong Learning is a joint venture between the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies.
