Energy policy forum set for Oct. 20

October 7, 2003

The current state and future direction of energy policy in Wisconsin will be explored at an energy forum on the UW–Madison campus Monday, Oct. 20.

The Chancellor’s Energy Policy Forum is being presented by the Wisconsin Public Utility Institute at the School of Business in collaboration with the office of Chancellor John Wiley. The all-day program will be held in the Fluno Center for Executive Education.

“This conference provides a variety of perspectives on how we can and should reach our energy goals in Wisconsin,” Wiley says ” We have been able to attract energy leaders from the public and private sectors, allowing for a balanced discussion of a number of energy issues.”

Wiley and Burnie Bridge, chair of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, will begin the discussion. Wiley will give a keynote address, “A Scientific and Political Conundrum: A Discussion of Wisconsin’s Energy Generation and Transmission Grid.” Bridge will offer the “State of the State,” as it pertains to energy policy.

Experts from academia and industry will provide updates on advances in energy technology and an expert panel will provide feedback.

“It’s going to be a wonderful opportunity to learn and discuss the energy issues that are so important to us all,” says Wendy Grapentine, WPUI director.

Registration is $100 for the public and $80 for WPUI members. Nonprofit organizations can participate for $40 per person. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 10.
