Eisinger to Take Position at Wayne State

July 22, 1997

Peter Eisinger, Hawkins Professor of Political Science and Public Policy and former director of the Robert M. La Follette Institute of Public Affairs at UW–Madison, has accepted a teaching position at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich.

Eisinger will join Wayne State’s College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs as a professor of political science this fall. He has taught at UW–Madison for 28 years, specializing in urban politics and economic development policy. He chaired the Department of Political Science from 1987-1990 and directed the La Follette Institute from 1991-96.

Eisinger says the move was preceded by his wife, a practicing attorney, being offered a faculty position in the Wayne State Law School.

“With some reluctance we’re leaving Madison,” Eisinger says. “We like Madison very much and I like the UW very much. But I’m an urbanist, so the prospect of being in a city is very exciting.”

Among his latest projects, Eisinger is finishing a book on hunger and food assistance policy in the United States. He’ll be at UW–Madison until mid-August.
