Early Music Ensemble entertains at ‘Tudor Tuesday’ Roundtable lecture

November 17, 2010

The December University Roundtable lecture will welcome the Early Music Ensemble on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Please note the date as a Tuesday Roundtable.

The December program, featuring a buffet lunch that begins serving at 11:30 a.m., will be held in Great Hall of the Memorial Union on Dec. 7. The after-lunch performance will include student performers and these selections:

  • “Pyrmonter Kurwoche” (Sabato) by Georg Philipp Telemann. This set of trios was composed by Telemann in 1734 to entertain his fellow patients while taking the cure at Bad Pyrmont.
  • “The Huntsman,” by English composer John Carr. A lively cantata about the hunt featuring soprano, baroque flute, natural horn, harpsichord and bassoon.
  • “Begli occhi” (beautiful eyes) a cantata by the 17th-century composer Barbara Strozzi. A sensuous work for two sopranos and continuo by one of the finest Italian composers of the 17th century.

The program is open to members of the university community and their guests, and each luncheon costs $10. The reservation deadline is Nov. 30, and reservations can be made online.

Reservations can also be made through Marc Turnes at 263-2985. Checks made out to UW Roundtable can be sent to the Office of the Secretary of the Academic Staff at 270 Bascom Hall, 500 Lincoln Drive, Madison 53706.
