Dance students, faculty to show what they can do

October 19, 2005

As the noted photographer Jacques Lartigue no doubt would testify, human perception changes noticeably depending on whether the perceiver is in front of or behind the camera.

UW–Madison dance student Laura Zimmerman will explore that phenomenon through movement in an untitled piece, part of this fall’s annual student concert, Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 20-22.

Other original pieces in the concert will include an interpretation of childhood, an in-depth examination of the artist’s search for inspiration, a meditation on the search for self, a reflection on small-town life inspired by Thornton Wilder’s play “Our Town” and a celebration of Appalachian settlers. One of the dances will be chosen to represent UW–Madison at the American College Dance Festival next spring.

New and recent works by UW–Madison faculty and guest artists will be on stage Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 17-19. Tickets for the faculty concert are $12 general and $8 students. The price of admission to the student performance is $10 general/$5 students on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Tickets to both events are available at the door. All performances will begin at 8 p.m. in Lathrop Hall’s Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space. For more information, call the program office, 262-1691.
