Culver receives Distinguished Business Alumnus Award

June 1, 2006

The University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Business has announced Curt Culver will receive its Distinguished Business Alumnus Award tonight (June 1) at an event in his honor at the Blue Mound Country Club in Brookfield, Wis. The award is the highest honor presented by the School of Business.

Culver is the chair, president and CEO of the Milwaukee-based MGIC Investment Corp., the nation’s leading provider of private mortgage insurance coverage. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1974 and a master’s degree in 1975 from the UW–Madison School of Business.

“Curt’s tremendous success in business and in life is due to the energy and intelligence he brings to everything he does,” says School of Business Dean Michael Knetter. “We are extremely fortunate to have someone of his caliber so actively involved in the School of Business.”

Culver has served on the school’s Dean’s Advisory Board since 2000. He established a scholarship fund for a real estate student at the School of Business in 1997. In 2004, he spoke to Wisconsin MBA students in the John J. Oros Executive Leadership Series with his brother, Craig Culver, co-founder and president of the popular Culver’s Frozen Custard and its Culver Franchising System Inc. Culver is the co-chair of the school’s current capital campaign, which is part of the UW–Madison “Create the Future: The Wisconsin Campaign.”

The Distinguished Business Alumnus Award is given to graduates of the School of Business who not only achieve outstanding success in their career, but also have given back in meaningful ways to the community. In the school’s more than 100-year history, only 70 individuals have been honored with this award.

UW–Madison School of Business alumni comprise a network of more than 35,000 business professionals worldwide. Alumni stay connected to each other and the school through Wisconsin Business Alumni, a free organization which provides an online community, career resources and networking events around the world.
