Courses offered in business French, Spanish

September 6, 2000 By Helen Capellaro

Business French and Spanish courses are being offered this fall at the School of Business. The courses will help businesspeople understand another culture and communicate more effectively when conducting business internationally.

Level 1 Spanish for Business classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m. in a series of three modules that run Sept. 11-April 18.

Level 1 French for Business is offered Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. and includes individual directed-study sessions. The modules run Sept. 14-April 12.

Each participant who successfully completes all three modules of French or Spanish will earn a beginning-level business language certificate.

The beginning modules assume basic knowledge of the language. Throughout the program, instructors will cover cultural issues specific to French and Spanish-speaking cultures and address oral and written communication.

Continuing Studies associate professor Irene Geller will teach the French classes. Continuing Studies outreach specialist Antonio Noguera will teach the Spanish sections. Both have extensive experience teaching and doing business in the language.

Advanced classes are available for those who have studied the language or have completed the Level 1 courses. Three modules in Advanced Spanish for Business classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays at 4-5:30 p.m., Sept. 11-April 18.

Advanced French for Business is offered through directed study courses.
Enrollment is limited and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The business/language courses were developed by the Center for International Business Education and Research and the Division of Continuing Studies.
