Course Guide now available

November 4, 2009

The Office of the Registrar and DoIT announce a new resource for campus: Course Guide. Course Guide brings courses and related information from many campus sources together into one spot. It aggregates content and presents it in a consistent format.

Course Guide is intended for use by students, prospective students and their parents; faculty and instructors; advisers; UW–Madison staff; and the public. Campus users with a NetID can access Course Guide through http://my.wisc.edu (click on the Course Guide tab). Others can gain access to the public version available at http://mycourseguide.wisc.edu.

Course Guide was introduced over the summer and was used by SOAR students and advisers. A few of Course Guide’s initial features include official course information; current and future term information; and browse by course title, instructor, subject and school/college. Course Guide also acts as the catalog for all active classes, and provides information on when they were last taught. It is a complement to the Schedule of Classes.

Features coming in early November include enhanced, at-a-glance section detail information presenting time/day/room/instructor, class notes, available textbook and final exam information, an improved enrollment packaging display and much more. Students, advisers and others will find new planning features that allow them to save courses in favorites lists and create plans for future semesters.

Course Guide enhancements planned for 2010 include robust searching capabilities with various data views, a class schedule builder that allows students to choose their favorite schedule and enroll in it, and a campus map to help students identify where their classes are located. Other functionality on the horizon include presenting instructor profiles, which may include a syllabi, video clip, teaching style and/or philosophy, instructor background, etc.
