Countdown to commencement begins Nov. 7

November 5, 2002 By Cheryl Porior-Mayhew

December graduates can prepare for commencement and life in the “real world” by attending UW–Madison’s Countdown to Commencement on Thursday, Nov. 7. This year, the one-stop-shop approach to commencement will be held at the Wisconsin Alumni Association from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will enable December graduates to reserve commencement attire; order class rings, announcements and diploma frames; check graduation status; confirm mailing addresses for diplomas; and learn about commencement activities for individual schools and colleges.

Sponsors of Countdown to Commencement include: the Senior Class, the Office of the Secretary of the Faculty, the Office of the Registrar, the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA), the University Book Store and the Wisconsin Union.

WAA staff will be on hand to explain the benefits of joining the alumni association, including access to short-term insurance, free e-mail, valuable career resources and ways to stay connected to UW–Madison after graduation.

Winter grads may also order yearbooks and receive information about Wisconsin Union memberships. Countdown to Commencement staff members are prepared to handle walk-in traffic throughout the day; no appointment is necessary.

The Alumni Lounge, in the Wisconsin Alumni Association building, is located at 650 N. Lake St.. It is directly behind the Pyle Center on Lake Mendota, just beyond the intersection of Langdon and Lake streets. The entrance is on Lake Street.
