Chancellor’s statement on the passing of Madison education leader Milton McPike

March 30, 2008

"Milt McPike’s bedrock values of hard work, education and family made Madison a vastly richer place. We will miss his commitment to young people, his open-hearted service, and the way he inspired generations of students to achieve and succeed.

"He was a guiding force for students, teaching them to embrace diversity, overcome bias, and build their lives through learning.

"At this most difficult time, my thoughts are with Milt’s wife, Sharon, and his family and friends. We have lost a powerful role model, but one whose work has helped brighten the futures of countless students and of the entire Madison community."
