In a departure from tradition, UW System President Katharine Lyall has increased to four the number of alumni and community leaders on the committee. They will join 11 faculty members, two academic staff members, two students and two university administrators.

The committee will conduct its work during the summer and fall, Durand says. The group will recommend at least five finalists to the president and the Board of Regents.

Other faculty members are Tino Balio, communication arts; David Bethea, Slavic languages; Jo Handelsman, plant pathology; Laura Kiessling, chemistry and biochemistry; Stephen Robinson, industrial engineering and computer sciences; Thomas Rockwell Mackie, medical physics and oncology; Lydia Zepeda, consumer sciences; Linda Oakley, nursing; Brent McCown, horticulture; and Don Nichols, Economics. Academic staff are Bill Steffenhagen, assistant dean, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and Esther Olson, assistant director, Synchrotron Radiation Center. Students are Tshaka Barrows, junior, and Adam Briggs, senior. Administrators are Charles Read, dean, School of Education, and David Olien, senior vice president for administration, UW System. Community members are Wade Fetzer, past board chair, UW Foundation; David Zoerb, chair, Badger Action Network; Mark Bugher, director, UW Research Park; and outgoing Regent President San Orr.

The group will make its recommendations to Lyall and to a regent panel chaired by Jay L. Smith and including JoAnne Brandes, Guy Gottschalk, Frederic Mohs and Jose Olivieri.
