Carillon bells will play Friday in remembrance
Carillon Tower with Lake Mendota in the background. The tower will be the site of a special memorial Friday to students who passed away in the past year.
The campus will remember University of Wisconsin–Madison students who passed away during the past summer and academic year in a brief ceremony on Friday, May 8, at 1 p.m. at the Carillon Tower.
Students being remembered include Michael Janke, Paul Bucci, Susanna Harewood, Erika Nelson, Daniel Banda, Michael Umhoefer, Michael Cooper Heinz and Andrew Jensen.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the tower, located on Observatory Drive near the Social Sciences Building. Carillonneur Lyle Anderson will perform portions of individual musical selections. A moment of silence will follow the selection to commemorate the life of each student. The memorial tribute will conclude with “Varsity.”
The Carillon Tower is a campus landmark and the cumulative gift of the graduating classes of 1917 to 1926. Anderson has been the UW carillonneur since 1986.
