Campus Parking Meter Rates Increase

July 31, 1997

Starting Aug. 1, parking meter rates on campus will increase to 75 cents per hour, the same as downtown rates in the City of Madison.

The campus parking meter rate had been 60 cents per hour.

“Campus parking meter rates have not been raised for a number of years, and with additional parking construction costs facing the university, the decision was made to match city rates this fiscal year,” says Lori Kay, Transportation Services director.

Parking meter revenue will offset the cost of several parking ramps being built on campus and helps pay for campus bus service, safety services and other programs not covered by permit-related fees. The university has budgeted about $700,000 in projected revenue from parking meters this fiscal year, which began July 1.

The conversion of approximately 1,000 parking meters on campus will begin Aug. 1 and take only a few days to complete, Kay says.
