Bascom Hall to host student diversity forum, ‘house party’

April 26, 2005

Discussions on campus diversity will be followed by the sounds of MadHatters, Polydream and ComedySportz on the evening of Thursday, April 28, as Bascom Hall plays host to the Plan 2008 Student Forum and “Chancellor Wiley’s House Party.”

The Plan 2008 Student Forum will run from 5-9 p.m. in room 272 of Bascom Hall. “Chancellor Wiley’s House Party” will follow in front of Bascom and last until approximately midnight. Both events are free and open to students, faculty and staff. The joint event is the result of a unique collaboration between Generation 2008, the Multicultural Student Coalition, and the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board (WASB) All-Campus Party.

The Plan 2008 forum is designed to give the campus community a chance to raise issues and ask questions about the state of diversity programs. It will feature keynote speakers Jayson Pope, Diallo Shabazz and Andrea Wise, alumni who have continued to work on ways of creating mutually beneficial institutional change with respect to diversity and social justice.

Other highlights will feature breakout sessions on the seven goals of the plan and a question and answer session with UW–Madison Chancellor John Wiley and Provost Peter Spear. Free pizza will be served.

After the forum, participants are invited to stay to enjoy kegs of root beer and dance to the sounds of a mix of student performing groups. Among the acts scheduled to appear are UW Belly Dancing, Just Blaze, Dance Elite, Polydream and MadHatters.

A DJ-break dance battle will take place in front of the Lincoln statue. Kegs of Sprecher root beer will be served by UW–Madison deans and other administrators.
