Badger game available on campus via ESPN360.com

October 6, 2006

ESPN will provide free live coverage of the Wisconsin Badgers-Northwestern University football game for those with campus Internet connections on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. on ESPN360.com.

This has been extended to Internet connections on the Madison campus only. This will not work on Internet connections off campus, including DSL and cable modem connections–even if individuals try to connect to the campus network.

Officials at the Memorial Union and Union South plan to project the digital images on larger screens to accommodate more viewers, after being granted permission by ESPN360.

ESPN360 is not a pay subscription service, but a licensed service to cable/DSL operators. As our own Internet Service Provider, the university is occasionally able to make arrangements for special content, such as this weekend’s game.

To access it from a computer on the UW–Madison network, go to ESPN360.com. If you have the right media player installed, a window will pop-up to play the video. If your Web browser has pop-up blocking, you’ll need to allow pop-ups from ESPN360.com. When the player is running, there are several selections called “channels” available under the heading “The Latest.” Click on the 360 channel icon for the UW-Northwestern game.

Officials at the Division of Information Technology caution that this is an “as is” service, and is not supported by the DoIT Help Desk or any other campus department. Please do not call the Help Desk if it doesn’t work from your desktop.
