Students prefer electronic delivery of information

UW-Madison students are highly interested in issues related to graduation requirements, career development and technology resources, and they prefer receiving information about these topics from Web sites and e-mail. The findings are from a pilot Web survey of 1,500 students that examined the priorities and preferences students have when seeking news and information on 13 topics.

Rare texts reveal the history of oxygen’s discovery

In conjunction with the University Theatre production of the drama, Oxygen, and the presentation of a public chemistry symposium on oxygen in spring 2003, the UW-Madison library collections will display some rare chemistry books. The exhibit will run from Feb. 17 through April 30 in the Department of Special Collections, 976 Memorial Library, 728 State St.

Interdisciplinary dimension new to UW transportation program

Relieving the growing congestion on interstate highways and city streets will require more than simply building additional roads. Engineering is part of the solution, but economic, political, social and environmental considerations also determine what can and should be done. That’s the concept behind a new interdisciplinary graduate-level certificate program offered by the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at UW-Madison.

Wisconsin recognizes athletic pioneers

Every institution of higher learning has a hidden history regarding the involvement of African Americans on their intercollegiate sports teams. UW-Madison has made an effort to retrieve this illustrious history of Wisconsin’s path-breaking black players through the efforts of Gregory Bond, a Ph.D. researcher in American history at UW-Madison. Bond’s research, 1900-1970, is being showcased in a new feature on the Web site at uwbadgers.com called “Celebrate UW’s Black History.”
