Conference explores new Latin American left
An international roster of guests from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Venezuela and more will join scholars, students and community members on Thursday-Sunday, April 29-May 2, for an exploration of "The New Latin American Left: Origins and Future Trajectory."
Employees ice cream social May 5
What's your favorite Babcock ice cream flavor? Is it orange custard chocolate chip? Chocolate peanut butter? Or the old standby and most popular, vanilla? Those will be just some of the flavors to choose from at the second annual UW–Madison ice cream social. The event, which marks State Employee Recognition Day in Wisconsin, will take place rain or shine on Wednesday, May 5, from 2:30-4 p.m. on upper Bascom Hill. All UW–Madison employees are encouraged to attend.
Records management classes offered in May, June
To improve understanding of broad records management and archival concepts, and to explain issues specific to UW–Madison, a series of workshops is being held in May and June.
Teaching, learning symposium to examine ‘literacies’
This year's Teaching and Learning Symposium, May 18-21, focuses on an expanded concept of literacy, one that encompasses information, communication, science, math and cultural literacy, in addition to reading and writing. All these "literacies" refer to fundamental abilities to identify and critically use information of all sorts, and to be able to communicate.
Bus schedules cut back May 10

Parallel Press publishes collection of African poetry
The Parallel Press, an imprint of UW–Madison Libraries, has released a chapbook of African poetry and created an exhibit on African writers.
Parking permit prices corrected
In the April 14 issue of Wisconsin Week, one of the parking permit prices in the three-tiered pricing structure for the 2004-05 academic year was incorrectly reported. The annual prices will be $425, $675 and $1,015.
