April 18, 2003 By John Lucas

A search and screen committee has identified three finalists for the position of associate dean in the Dean of Students office.

The associate dean serves as chief judicial affairs officer, directs the Student Advocacy & Judicial Affairs Team, shares a leadership role in strategic planning efforts for the DOS division and represents Dean Luoluo Hong in her absence.

The new associate dean will fill the position now held on an interim basis by Don Schutt, director of the Office of Human Resources Development. Interviews will take place later this month and in early May, with an anticipated start date of June 1. Students will have an opportunity to meet each of the candidates in an open forum.

The finalists are:

  • Lori M. Berquam, assistant dean of students at UW–Madison. Berquam holds an undergraduate degree from Northeast Missouri State University, (now Truman State) and a master’s from UW-La Crosse.
  • Sheila P. Fleishman, university director of student judicial affairs at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s from Syracuse University.
  • Andrea R. Goldblum, assistant dean of students and director of student life at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and a master’s from the University of Michigan.

The Dean of Students office administers a range of programs and services designed to support the university’s 41,000 students. Among the many responsibilities of the position are fostering a healthy and diverse campus climate, advocating for student needs and providing crisis support services.
