Arrive early on game day

September 7, 2001

Athletic Department officials say football fans should allows extra time to navigate construction around Camp Randall Stadium.

Associate Athletic Director Al Fish encourages fans to arrive early for Saturday’s contest. Fish indicated several areas north of the stadium are impassable, and pedestrian traffic is being routed to adjacent streets along Breese Terrace and Randall Avenue. Gates will open 90 minutes ahead of game time this season to assist patrons in accessing the stadium.

Camp Randall Stadium is undergoing the most comprehensive renovation and expansion project in its history over the next three years. Here are some tips:

  • Because of the construction on the Camp Randall Stadium grounds, fans should arrive at Wisconsin football games early. Gates to the stadium will open 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
  • Construction has already begun on the underground utilities located at the north east corner of the stadium (next to the McClain Center). As a result, no pedestrian traffic will be permitted to come from the northeast (from Campus Drive, University Avenue or Engineering Drive). Walkers will be diverted from University Drive towards Breese Terrace and from Campus / Engineering Drives towards Randall Avenue and eventually Monroe Street. Fencing will be setup to encourage pedestrian traffic flow to the southeast and northwest entrances.
  • All gates to the stadium will remain open, but pedestrian access to Camp Randall from the Engineering campus is not open. Breese Terrace and Monroe Street access will remain open throughout the season.
  • Vehicle traffic will be allowed on Engineering Drive in order to provide access to the Lot 17 ramp. Engineering Drive is the only route for vehicles to reach the Lot 17 ramp. For the 2001 football season, vehicles will not be able to access the Lot 17 ramp from Monroe Street. Patrons that park there must exit the ramp from the southwest corner.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists will be unable to travel north of the stadium (between the McClain Center and the southeast corner of the Lot 17 ramp) during this construction phase. Patrons will need to travel via Randall Avenue / Monroe Street or University Avenue / Breese Terrace.
  • Students will need to approach their gates on the north end from either Breese Terrace or Monroe Street.
  • When exiting Camp Randall Stadium, fans will be directed along the same route they took to the game. There will be additional pedestrian crossings posted along University Avenue.
  • Post-game traffic from Lot 60 is urged to head east on University Bay Drive to Campus Drive. Do not use Walnut Street for access to University Avenue.

Signage, additional guest services staff and public address announcements at the stadium will offer advice to patrons for easier pedestrian traffic flow.
