October 5, 1999

The McKay Center looks small in this view across the Arboretum’s Curtis Prairie, but it will soon get bigger following state Building Commission approval of a $2.5 million project designed by Taliesin Architects of Madison. The project aims to update the 22-year-old McKay Center so it can handle larger groups.

of visitors and do a better job of educating students. The project also will add a four-acre Wisconsin native plant garden surrounding the facility. Building expansion and remodeling is to be completed in a year. The garden is to be finished in mid-2001. The money comes from gifts to the arboretum’s fund-raising campaign. Photo: Jeff Miller
