April events bring spring to campus

April 8, 2009 By Kiera Wiatrak

Spring into those long-awaited warm months by attending one or more of the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s April 18 events.

Start the day at 9 a.m. with the Engineering Expo 2009 and browse projects reflecting the creativity and hard work of the College of Engineering’s students, or participate in one of the many all-ages competitions. Sponsored by Bosch, among other corporations, the expo, which will be held on the College of Engineering campus, will begin Thursday, April 16, and conclude at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.

The event is free to UW–Madison students and faculty with ID, $5 for adults, $3 for K-12 students and free for children under 5.

Continue your morning at the Wisconsin Wellness Campaign at the Southeast Recreation Facility (SERF). Watch presentations and peruse displays from companies and vendors encouraging healthy lifestyles.

Participating organizations include Mound Street Yoga, Orange Shoe Gym and Berkeley Running Co. The event is free and open to the public and will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Grab a quick bite and the kids and head to the McClain Center, adjacent to Camp Randall Stadium, for the Badger Kids’ Fair, where children can meet UW–Madison student athletes and coaches and browse interactive displays.

The fair will open its doors at noon and conclude at 2 p.m., just in time for kickoff of the Badgers’ spring football game. Watch your favorite players battle each other in this red-and-white scrimmage. The game and fair are free and open to the public.

Conclude your busy day with the UW Varsity Band at the Kohl Center at 7:30 p.m. For $20, enjoy a variety of selections including ’80s hits and a portrayal of Disney’s “The Lion King” and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Guest artists will also be performing.
