Annual juried student exhibition ‘Design 2009’ opens March 27.

Throughout the academic year, students in textile, apparel and interior design studio classes reserve their best projects for this exhibition, which typically includes a broad range of work from weaving samples, garments, color studies, sculpture and architectural models to computer-aided-design images and digital projections.

A department tradition since 1992, this show provides many students with their first opportunity to exhibit in a professionally managed gallery.

This year’s juror for interior design will be Ed Linville of Linville Architects LLC in Middleton, a full-service architecture and design firm with a reputation for organic design principles and environmental respect. Linville’s work has been published and nationally recognized, and he serves on numerous local and regional planning committees. He has also been a guest lecturer for the American Institute of Architects and a senior lecturer at UW-Madison.

The juror for textile and apparel design will be Elizabeth Tuttle, a Madison fiber artist known for her experimentation with color and innovative approach to crochet. Tuttle has had a long association with the School of Human Ecology: She served as the first director of the Design Gallery (1991–2001) and received her MFA in textile design in 1977 from UW-Madison.

The exhibition will be open from Friday, March 27–Sunday, April 26, at the School of Human Ecology’s Design Gallery, 1300 Linden Drive. An opening reception will be held from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Friday, March 27. Awards will be presented at noon.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Wednesdays–Fridays and from noon–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
