Ask Bucky

Ask Bucky is a service provided by the Campus Information and Visitor Center. For more information, call 263‒2400, visit the office in the Red Gym or the new satellite location in Bascom Hall, or visit us at http://www.civc.wisc.edu. Below are two questions Ask Bucky recently answered.

Q: Is there a place online where past and recent grads can see pictures of how buildings and areas used to look?

A: You can take a walk down memory lane by accessing an online photo exhibit called “The University of Wisconsin Collection.” This exhibit, maintained by University Archives, contains photos from a number of sources and time periods, dating from the early 1900s to the year 2000. Visit http://archives.library.wisc.edu/exhibits/.

For more recent images of campus, University Communications maintains an online collection of more than 3,500 photos of campus buildings and events at http://photos.news.wisc.edu/.

Q: I heard that you can watch the ice cream being made. I’m trying to schedule a tour of the dairy plant for my mother’s group and then on to Babcock Hall for some ice cream.

A: You can not only witness ice cream production, but also milk and cheese production, from the observation deck at the Babcock Hall Dairy Plant. In addition to the self-guided tour, you may also request to watch a video presentation. The best time to watch the dairy plant in action is weekday mornings. For more information, visit http://www.wisc.edu/foodsci/store/ or call 262‒3045.
