Airport Art Court gives travelers a taste of artistic, cultural resources

May 3, 2006

Summer travelers making their way through the Dane County Regional Airport will meet up with a series of gallery exhibitions, including four from UW–Madison, intended to illustrate the connection between flight and art.

“On Wings of Art” draws from art centers throughout Madison and Dane County, including the Memorial Library Special Collections, the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research, the Department of Geography’s History of Geography Project, and Tandem Press, the Department of Art’s fine arts press.

The Art Court has been located inside the airport’s main entrance and outside of the security gates and near luggage carousels. Organizers say that the many media in the exhibition will give visitors and area residents on the move a comprehensive overview of the region’s artistic, cultural and historic resources.

This exhibition will be up for about six months, through the busy summer and back-to-school travel seasons.
