Dean Bowles, professor emeritus of educational leadership and policy analysis, received the Outstanding Educator Award at the annual Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators Conference.

Michelle Curtis was named associate director of the Office of Student Financial Services.

James Dumesic, a professor of chemical and biological engineering, was reappointed as a Steenbock Professor in the Biological Sciences.

John Gallagher, a professor of astronomy, was named the W.W. Morgan Professor of Astronomy.

Ann Kelley, a professor of psychiatry, was named a Wisconsin Neuroscience Professor.

Laura Kiessling, a professor in the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was named a Hilldale Professor.

Florencia Mallon, a professor of history, was named a Julieta Kirkwood Professor of History.

Gordon Medaris, professor emeritus of geology and geophysics, was the recipient of the Emanuel Boricky Medal.

Dick Ringler, professor emeritus of English and Scandinavian studies, won the Elizabeth A. Steinberg Prize from the UW Press for his book, “Jonas Hallgrimsson, Poet and Scientist.”

Frank Salomon, a professor of anthropology, was named John V. Murra Professor.

Mark Seidenberg, a professor of psychology, was named a Hilldale Professor.

Wesley Smith, a professor of physics, was named the Bjorn Wiik Professor of Physics.

Gurindar Sohi, chair of the Department of Computer Sciences, was named the John P. Morgridge Chair of Computer Sciences.

Karen Strier, a professor of anthropology, was named a Hilldale Professor.

Ellen Wald, chair of the Department of Pediatrics, was named an Alfred Dorrance Daniels Professor on Diseases of Children.

Don Waller, Department of Botany, is president of the International Society for the Study of Evolution.

John White, a professor of anatomy and molecular biology, was named a Jim Crow Professor.
