Library liaisons program restructured for easier identification

April 19, 2006

Every academic department on campus has a liaison at the libraries who they can contact with questions and requests. In the past year, the library liaisons program has been restructured to make faculty and staff connections with the library easier and more effective.

Library liaisons are now listed on a Web site, allowing departments to easily identify their liaisons. This page is accessible from the “Contact Us” link on the library home page and is the primary comprehensive listing of subject librarians. The new page lists liaisons by department, allowing faculty, staff and students to identify a specific liaison without needing to know which library or library unit holds research that matches a particular interest. The liaison listed can answer questions for that department and refer inquiries to another library or librarian as appropriate, regardless of whether the question is related to collections, library instruction or other library services.

By connecting faculty and students via their own UW affiliation, they are not required to understand the library’s internal organization to know which questions should be asked where.

Liaisons will also communicate with department faculty and graduate students about library services and identify possible courses that would benefit from instructional sessions offered by the Library and Information Literacy Instruction program.
