New men’s a cappella ensemble to open for Tangled Up in Blue concert

April 4, 2006

“I can’t believe how quickly it’s coming up!” says Kelly Spitzner, a senior in art and psychology. She also is the business manager for Tangled Up in Blue, UW–Madison’s women’s a cappella group.

The “it” she’s referring to is Tangled Up’s concert on Sunday, April 9, in the Wisconsin Union Theater.

“We’ll be singing everything from the Chiffons to the Killers,” she says. “We try to have a diverse set that will be fun for everyone: oldies, ’80s rock, country, new pop.”

Opening for Tangled will be Fundamentally Sound, the year-old men’s a cappella organization.

“They’ve just started singing around campus. We asked them to open for us because we thought it would be a great opportunity for them to sing in a big venue and start getting their voices out there,” Spitzner says.

For her, Tangled Up in Blue has been an educational experience like none other.

“Being first publicity manager and now business manager for the group has taught me things I never dreamed I could pull off. I now know how to produce a CD, set up and promote large concerts, make professional contacts and manage a group. I’ve also made lifelong friends and priceless memories. It’s going to be hard for me to leave when I graduate,” she says.

Before that, however, is this concert, starting at 6 p.m. in the Wisconsin Union Theater. Tickets, $10 general/$7 students, are available through the theater box office, 262-2201. For more information, e-mail tangled_blue@hotmail.com.
