Science magazine news editor named Writer in Residence

March 21, 2006

Colin J. Norman, news editor for Science magazine, has been named a Science Writer in Residence for this spring.

A veteran of more than 35 years in journalism, Norman has been a writer and editor for Science since 1981. As news editor, he runs the entire Science news department, coordinating and editing the journal’s award-winning news section and supervising a global team of staff and freelance writers.

Norman will spend the week of April 2 on campus visiting classes and working individually with students, staff and faculty to provide insight into science news and how it is made and written.

He will also deliver a free public lecture at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, in the Memorial Union (check TITU for location). Norman’s talk, “Journalism in Journals: Covering the Science Community,” will provide an insider’s view of how journals generate and cover science news, and the changing world of science publishing.
