Ask Bucky

Do you have questions? We have answers! Ask Bucky is a service provided by the Campus Information and Visitor Center, your one-stop shop for information about the UW–Madison campus and community and your centralized source for off-campus housing listings. For more information, call 263-2400, visit the office in the Red Gym or the new satellite location in Bascom Hall, or visit us at http://www.civc.wisc.edu. Below are two questions Ask Bucky recently answered.

Q: What happened to the Bucky clock(s) that used to be at the corner of University and Park Street? Are they gone forever or will they resurface?

A: For years, Bucky’s arms have pointed to the correct time and served as a guidepost for the campus community at 905 University Ave. In preparation for a new Grainger Hall addition, the clocks were removed this past year and are in storage. Although the Grainger addition calls for an exterior clock at the corner of Park Street and University Avenue, it is unclear whether or not this will be a Bucky clock.

At the same time, according to Facilities Planning and Management, preserving the Bucky clock is certainly a priority. Although the future locations of the landmark Bucky clocks are still being finalized, it is likely that one will be included at the site of UW–Madison’s new Welcome Center, currently under construction at 21 N. Park St.

For more information on the future of the Bucky clocks, contact Gary Brown from Facilities Planning and Management at 263-3023 or gbrown@fpm.wisc.edu.

Q: Do you know about a campus online lost and found?

A: There is an online lost and found list in your MyUW-Madison portal (http://my. wisc.edu/portal), under the “Campus Life” tab. You may enter a “lost” or “found” item in a searchable field to see if it has been listed.

In addition to the online listing, each campus building typically has a lost and found, and you may also contact University Police at 262-4524 for lost or found items.
