A team of programmers from UW–Madison will compete in the 30th annual World Finals of the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC), sponsored by IBM. More than 5,600 teams, representing 1,733 universities from around the world, participated in the regional competitions last fall. The top 83 teams have qualified for the ACM-ICPC World Finals championships, April 9-13, in San Antonio.

Mary Anderson, a professor of geology and geophysics, has been elected as one of 76 new members and nine foreign associates of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). With Anderson’s election, the total number of NAE members in Wisconsin rises to 21.

Bob Bostad has been hired as an assistant football coach. Bostad will coach the Badgers’ tight ends.

Kari Branjord has been selected as the Higher Education User Group’s first vice president of technology.

Lew Conner has been named executive services director of the Higher Education User Group.

Eric Larson was named digital services librarian of Wendt Library.

Bill Nayes has been named assistant athletic director and director of football operations.

Tom Scott has been named president of the Higher Education User Group.

Kyung-Sun Kim, School of Library and Information Studies, will receive the 2006 Association of College and Research Libraries Samuel Lazerow Fellowship for Research in Technical Services or Acquisitions.

Jennifer Velasco was named a resource sharing librarian for the Wisconsin TechSearch team of Wendt Library.

Amanda Werhane was named bioengineering librarian and marketing coordinator of Wendt Library.

Howard Zimmerman has won the 2006 Porter Medal, which recognizes outstanding contributions to modern photophysical and photochemical research.
