School of Education alumni weekend: ‘Sesame Street’ goes global
The School of Education will celebrate alumni weekend on Saturday, May 7, with a behind-the-scenes look at how “Sesame Street” reaches children in 22 countries and fosters global awareness among young Americans.
In the keynote address, Joanne Livesey, assistant vice president of outreach for Sesame Workshop, will use videos and draw from her own experiences to illustrate the nonprofit organization’s mission to use media to help children everywhere reach their highest potential. The public is invited to this free event, which will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space in Lathrop Hall.
Following the keynote address, the school will present awards to eight distinguished alumni.
Recipients of the 2005 School of Education Alumni Achievement Awards are Dennis W. Engels, Mary Tucker Kellner, John J. Pedicone Jr., Andrew C. Porter and Ruth Zemke.
The recipient of the 2005 Outstanding Recent Graduate Award is Daniel T. Gustafson. The recipient of the 2005 Lois Gadd Nemec Distinguished Elementary Education Alumni Award is Rebecca J. Rosenberg. The recipient of the Carroll and Robert Heideman Distinguished Secondary Education Alumni Award is Jeanette Burda.
