Parallel Press releases new poetry chapbook

December 16, 1999

“Sure Knowledge” by Elizabeth Oness is the latest chapbook of poetry from the Parallel Press, an imprint of the UW–Madison General Library System. The 14 poems just released focus on the rich details of everyday life.

In this collection, the La Crosse writer explores family concerns; many of the poems reflect on the poet’s Irish-American Catholic childhood and her upbringing in a family of girls.

Oness is co-editor of Soundpost Press and directs marketing and development for Sutton Hoo Press. Her poems have appeared in Georgia Review, Hudson Review, Shenandoah and other magazines. Her stories have received numerous honors including an O. Henry Prize and a Nelson Algren Award. She is currently finishing her first novel, “Twelve Rivers of the Body.”

A chapbook is a small-format literary work, usually of poetry or essays. The Parallel Press has released four such works. Each chapbook is $10 plus $3 shipping.

Titles may be ordered by writing Parallel Press, 236 Memorial Library, 728 State St., Madison, WI 53706; calling (608) 263-4949.
