Clarinetist appears Saturday
The Faculty Concert Series continues Saturday, Oct. 23, with Linda Bartley, clarinet, and friends, performing in Mills Concert Hall, 8 p.m.

Lecture focuses on wages
Noted writer, essayist and wit Barbara Ehrenreich will lecture Thursday, Oct. 21, on the topic “Nickled and Dimed: Low-Wage Work in America” at 3:30 p.m. in 272 Bascom Hall. The event is part of the Havens Center Visiting Scholars series.

Opera opens season
The University Opera presents “La finta giardiniera,” William Farlow, director, and James Smith, conductor, in the Carol Rennebohm Auditorium, Music Hall, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 30. Tickets: $9 students; $12 public.

DNA computing expert visits
Richard J. Lipton, a computer scientist from Princeton University, will discuss the ideas behind DNA computing, as well as key roadblocks to making DNA computing practical, Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in AB20 Weeks Hall, 1215 Dayton St.
