More of ‘The Awful Truth’ to be shown at Memorial Union

April 16, 1999 By Barbara Wolff

After debuting satirist Michael Moore’s new TV show, “The Awful Truth,” last Sunday on a big screen in the Rathskeller, the Memorial Union will be showing episodes two and three Sunday, April 18, and Sunday, April 25. Show time is at 8 p.m. in the same location.

Large numbers of University of Wisconsin–Madison students appeared in last week’s initial episode in a segment advising Kenneth Starr and Congress how to conduct a cheaper witch hunt. It was filmed on the lower State Street Mall last October when Moore was on campus to speak as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate’s Distinguished Lecture Series. He invited his audience to take part in the night-time witch hunt, and just about everyone did.

“The Awful Truth” is being carried by the Bravo network, which is not available in Madison, so Moore made arrangements for it to be shown at the Union. An estimated 400-500 people turned out last week to see the first episode.

The showings are being sponsored by the Wisconsin Union Directorate and its Distinguished Lecture Series committee. Stay tuned! There is a good possibility that more episodes of “The Awful Truth” will be shown in the Rathskeller as the series continues its run.
