Law School open house Nov. 10

A first in the UW Law School’s 130-year history will take place Nov. 10 when the school sponsors an open house.

According to organizer Laurel Rosseter of the law school admissions office, the event comes as the result of a questionnaire sent to prospective students by admission committee chair Alta Charo, professor of law.

“The response made us aware that we underrepresent ourselves on the national level,” Rosseter says.

She adds that everyone interested in law school, either at Wisconsin or elsewhere, is welcome to attend the open house, which will run in conjunction with the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors (MAPLA) Law School Caravan in Memorial Union. The caravan will offer a venue for up to 90 law schools to talk with prospective students.

Meanwhile, the UW Law School will present morning and afternoon programs. The early session, which will begin at 8 a.m. in the atrium on the second floor of the law building, features Dean Kenneth B. Davis Jr. An afternoon program will convene at 3 p.m. in the atrium. Visitors may chat with student organization representatives, tour the Law School and its library, and sit in on a class.

“This is truly an event involving the whole school – faculty and staff, student organizations and volunteers,” Rosseter says. “This is a chance for us to show off our great school and help the next generation of law students.”
