Luncheon for Latino Academic Staff Feb. 13
The Latino Academic Staff Association will hold a special luncheon Friday, Feb. 13 for anyone interested in joining the organization.
LASA, founded in the late 1970s, is dedicated to promoting recognition of the contributions of Latino academic staff. Current members work in a variety of areas on campus including administration, student services, research and instruction.
Monthly meetings are held the first Friday of every month from 12-1:30 p.m. The organization also sponsors brown bag lunches with speakers from on and off campus as well as informal social activities.
“The purpose of our events is to provide professional development and skill building opportunities for our members,” says Evelyn Quinones, co-chair of the group.
Each fall, LASA also sponsors a professional development seminar for new and returning members.
“The workshop benefits all Latino staff by increasing awareness of how we can tap into university resources and how we can be assets to the university,” says Quinones. “Being a part of LASA has been helpful to me because I have been able to get to know colleagues on an informal basis from departments all over campus. It provides a nice network.”
Academic staff interested in attending the luncheon or interested in joining LASA should call Evelyn Quinones, 262-9564, or Ileana Rodriguez-Gunaratnam, 263-6787.
