Elizabeth Waters Renovation Forces Sidewalk Closures

May 23, 1997

Elizabeth Waters residence hall will spend summer vacation undergoing several renovations.

Constructed in 1940, the building will receive an upgraded fire alarm system, new windows, renovated bathrooms and a new roof, according to Paul Evans, university housing assistant director of physical facilities.

Expected to cost about $2 million, the project will be completed around August 22. Meanwhile, Evans says surrounding sidewalks must be blocked off for safety reasons.

“University Housing is sorry for the inconvenience this will cause,” he says. “Pedestrians can use the sidewalk on the south side of Observatory Drive or the Lakeshore Path until the construction is completed.”
