Continuing Studies Faculty and Staff Honored

Several Division of Continuing Studies faculty and staff members have been recognized for their work recently: Jim Campbell, associate professor of health and human issues, received the President’s Award from the Wisconsin Association of Mediators for his service and contributions to the field of mediation in Wisconsin. Marion Becker, an assistant professor of health and human issues, received the Annual Research Award of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Wisconsin. Becker has done extensive research on outcome measurements for people with a mental illness. Susan Farmer, associate professor, Continuing Education in the Arts, received the Wisconsin Associations of 4-H Agents’ 1997 Award of Meritorious Service for her years as a youth visual arts specialist for Cooperative Extension and for helping coordinate the 4-H Arts Camps program for middle school students.

On the national level, three division staff members were honored by the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA). They include: Suzanna Waters, instructor for programs on aging and long term care, Health and Human Issues, who won the Richard M. Thomas International Award for her teaching and consultation on community-based case management in the first master’s degree program in gerontology in Central America, at the University Guadalajara, Mexico; Howard Martin, dean of the division, who was named a UCEA North American Fellow, one of four educators selected to work in the higher education divisions of other North American countries; and John W. Schmidt, visiting professor in Communication Programs, who received the Walton S. Bittner Citation for outstanding service to UCEA.
