Coming soon: cost-transfer electronic-workflow tool

April 20, 2011

A cost-transfer tool for campus units needing to do salary and/or nonsalary cost transfers will be introduced to campus the week of May 2 upon completion of a pilot of the tool and the implementation of the new Human Resource System (HRS).

The Administrative Process Redesign (APR) Cost Transfer team worked with the Division of Information Technology to design this tool, which significantly reduces the amount of time it takes to process cost transfers.

During the first week of May, representatives from the APR Cost Transfer team and subject matter experts from Accounting Services and Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) will be offering two training sessions to interested staff. To attend one of these training sessions, register at https://www.ohrd.wisc.edu/home/.

Pilot results show that due to the automatic validation of information including account codes and dollar amounts, data entry has been virtually error-proof. To date, 29 transfers were successfully processed since the pilot was launched on March 24. While results will be more conclusive once a larger volume of transfers has a chance to complete the cycle, so far we have seen the average time to complete a cost transfer reduced from more than 50 days to less than two days.
