Brendon Dybdahl recently joined the staff in University Housing as the new director of marketing and communications.

Alexander Lazarian, a professor of astronomy and physics, has been elected to receive the Humboldt Research Award, a lifetime achievement award, from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany. The award, valued at 60,000 EUR, was given in recognition of Lazarian’s research on astrophysical magnetic fields and turbulence, solar flares, and cosmic rays.

Baha Balantekin, Eugene P. Wigner Professor of Physics, has been selected to receive the American Physical Society Division of Nuclear Physics Distinguished Service Award “For his sustained and extensive contributions to the Division of Nuclear Physics over two decades that have enhanced its strength and vitality, especially in areas such as education and communication, while promoting its relationship with the American Physical Society.”

La Follette School of Public Affairs director Carolyn J. Heinrich has been elected to become a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, one of the youngest members to ever be elected since Congress chartered the academy in 1967. Heinrich is professor of public affairs, an affiliated professor of economics and a Regina Loughlin Scholar at UW–Madison. Her research focuses on social welfare policy, public management and performance management, and econometric methods for social-program evaluation.

At the Graduate School, Sharon Dunwoody is now interim associate dean for graduate education and Jan Greenberg is interim associate dean for social studies. Steve Hahn has been appointed assistant dean for admissions and academic services, and Kelly Haslam has been appointed an assistant dean with responsibility for the Office of Fellowships and Funding Resources.
