University Roundtable begins with ‘Changing Your Brain’

January 27, 2010

The exciting new field of “contemplative neuroscience,” a Law School project that frees the wrongly convicted and the seasonal beauty of the Allen Centennial Gardens will be featured during the spring series of University Roundtable luncheon presentations.

Speakers at University Roundtable discuss their work at the university as part of a series of engaging talks on timely, interesting topics. The programs, featuring a buffet lunch that begins serving at 11:45 a.m. at the Memorial Union, include:

  • Feb. 10: Richard Davidson’s talk, “Change Your Brain by Transforming Your Mind,’’ will explore the neuroscience of positive human qualities and introduce the new Center for Investigating Healthy Minds. Davidson is professor of psychology and psychiatry and director of the Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior.
  • March 10: Keith Findley and John Pray, law professors and co-directors of the Wisconsin Innocence Project, will talk about the first decade of the Law School program.
  • April 14: Ed Lyon will talk about “Planning and Planting the Allen Centennial Garden.”

Roundtable programs — held in Great Hall in February and Tripp Commons in March and April — are open to members of the university community and their guests. Each luncheon costs $10. The reservation deadline is one week prior to each event.

Reservations can also be made through Mary Johansen at 263-2985. Checks made out to UW Roundtable can be sent to 270 Bascom Hall.
