October 7, 2009

University Roundtable, a traditional luncheon lecture series at the university, kicks off for the fall semester on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with a talk by Gregg Mitman titled “From Marching Penguins to Charging Buffalo: The Moral Tales of Nature Film.”

Mitman is a history of science, medical history and science and technology studies professor and interim director of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. His presentation will feature clips from nature films over time and a preview of “Tales from Planet Earth,” the environmental film festival being held on campus in November.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Patty Loew will discuss “The Way of the Warrior,” examining Native American culture. Loew is an associate professor of life sciences communication and a producer for Wisconsin Public Television.

To wrap up the fall semester series, UW–Madison voice students will present a variety of musical performances on Wednesday, Dec. 16, titled “Songs of the Solstice.”

Roundtable luncheons are open to members of the campus community and begin at 11:45 a.m. in Tripp Commons at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. Cost for all three lectures is $28, or $10 per lecture and reservations are required one week prior to each event.

Registration is available online.
