U.S. Airways co-pilot to be Crazylegs grand marshal on April 25

Jeffrey Skiles, the co-pilot of the U.S. Airways plane that made a successful emergency landing in New York City’s Hudson River on Jan. 15, will serve as the grand marshal of the 2009 Crazylegs Classic on Saturday, April 25.

Skiles graduated from UW-Madison in 1984 with a bachelor of science degree in geology and geophysics.

This is the 28th year for Crazylegs. All proceeds from the event go to support Badger Athletics.

A new feature in the 8K-run this year is the ChronoTrack Timing System, which involves a single-use disposable chip attached to the runner’s shoelace.

Early registration is now open and will continue until noon on Monday, April 6. The cost is $25 for the run and wheelchair event and $20 for the 2-mile walk.

Late registration, which runs from noon April 6 until 4 p.m. April 21, will cost $30 for the run and $25 for the walk.

On-site registration will take place from noon-8 p.m. Friday, April 24, and from 7–9 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Kohl Center. The on-site fee will be $35 for the run and $30 for the walk.

Registration for Fun and Fitness teams is $30 per team member and must be completed and paid for by Monday, April 13. The teams must have a minimum of 10 members.

The Crazylegs run will start at 10 a.m. on the Capitol Square. The wheelchair event begins at 9:45 a.m. on the Square and the walk gets under way at 10 a.m. All races start at the corner of State and Mifflin streets.

The post-race festival in Camp Randall Stadium will feature refreshments, a Fifth Quarter performance by the UW Marching Band, and a mix of jazz, pop, and rhythm and blues performed by the popular Eddie Butts Band from Milwaukee.
