Virginia Tech shooting victims to be memorialized at gathering

April 17, 2007 By Dennis Chaptman

Members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus community will gather Wednesday evening in a memorial to the victims of this week's shooting rampage at Virginia Tech University.

The nondenominational gathering, sponsored by the Offices of the Dean of Students in partnership with University Religious Workers and the university's Counseling and Consultation Services office, will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Room 272 of Bascom Hall.

"The tragic events in Blacksburg are being felt here and on college campuses across the nation," says Dean of Students Lori Berquam. "We felt this was an appropriate way to remember the victims and to show our solidarity with the Virginia Tech campus as it struggles to cope with this enormous and horrifying loss."

Plans call for participants to write messages of condolence on a university banner, which will be sent to Virginia Tech.
