5K Poker Run/Walk on April 10

April 8, 2003

A 5K Poker/Run Walk to benefit Special Olympics and the UW Kinesiology Club is set for Thursday, April 10, at the Natatorium.

This seventh annual event puts a different spin on traditional races, incorporating a poker game into the run. Each participant will draw three cards when they register and receive the final two final cards of their hand when they finish. To encourage participation over performance, the grand prize goes to the participant with the highest poker hand.

“Whether people decide to run or walk during the race is up to them,” says Adam Figi of the UW Kinesiology Club. “The point of this run is not to see who can finish first. The point is to get out and move while raising money for a good cause.”

Registration for the event begins at 5 p.m. at the Natatorium, and the race begins at 6 p.m., rain or shine. The entry fee is $5. All proceeds benefit the Special Olympics and UW Kinesiology Club.

The run/walk is sponsored by the UW Kinesiology Club and University Health Services. For more information, contact Adam Figi at arfigi@wisc.edu or Katherine Loving, (608) 263-5714, kaloving@wisc.edu.
