Construction on the near west playfield in the west campus area will result in increased traffic in the area, including Observatory Drive, Walnut Drive and the McClimon Track. Work includes upgrading the fields to a permeable synthetic turf system for outdoor programs, including intramural sports, sports clubs and special events. It will include a large amount of earth and rock work to prep the site for the turf installation. The project also includes upgrades to lighting, scoreboards, new fencing, backstops for softball and baseball, and new access to the fields. The project is expected to be completed in November 2016.
