Admissions decisions coming soon

November 12, 2010

Prospective students and parents are encouraged to continue to be patient waiting for UW–Madison admissions decisions — letters will be arriving in mailboxes as soon as possible.

The first group of 400 decision letters were sent this week and will continue to flow from the office on a rolling basis.

The process of mailing decisions was delayed slightly this year by the arrival of new director of admissions and recruitment Adele Brumfield in late July. Brumfield spent several weeks evaluating the UW–Madison admissions process and applicant pool.

“We know there’s an extremely high degree of interest in attending UW–Madison,” says Brumfield. “We’re thankful for your applications and inquiries. Please be patient and know that you’ll hear from us as soon as possible.”

The slight delay compared to last year’s notification period is not a reflection of the applications of individual students and only relates to the university’s internal processes.

Admissions is on target to meet its decision deadline of Jan. 15 for those who have submitted completed application postmarked by Nov. 1 (the deadline for the first notification period.)

Students who apply by Feb. 1 (the second notification period deadline) will have their decisions made on or before March 15.

Applying within the first or second notification periods does not bear any weight in the decision-making process. Every student who submits a completed application by Feb. 1 will be given full and equal consideration.
