Cancellations related to Feb. 1-2 snowstorm

Below is a current list of changes to campus services and events. If you have information about campus event cancellations, email chancellor@news.wisc.edu with specific details.

Badger Bus: Call 877-292-8259 or visit badgerbus.com to check schedules to ensure your bus is departing or arriving.

Campus Libraries: Many libraries are closed Wednesday, including Memorial Library. A complete listing of changes to campus library schedules is posted.

City of Madison: The city has declared a snow emergency.

Continuing education: UW-Madison’s Division of Continuing Studies has canceled a number of Tuesday classes and all Wednesday classes and programs. For more information, click here.

Cancer seminar: The McArdle Seminar in Cancer Biology set for Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Genetic-Biotech Auditorium has been canceled.

Dining units at University Housing: Due to extremely cold weather conditions predicted for this evening, Wednesday, Feb. 2, dining units (including convenience stores) will close at normal times or at 9 p.m., whichever is earlier. The units closing early are Frank’s Place, Rheta’s, Now or Later, Ed’s Express, Carson’s Carryout, and Newell’s Deli. There will be no food delivery service (pizza, subs, nachos, etc.) for residents tonight.

On Thursday, February 3, we anticipate that all of our dining units will return to normal operation. However, you may experience some variation in our menus.

Engineering Career Fair: The Engineering Career Fair is canceled. Employers have been invited to attend on Thursday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. if they are still in town.

International Student Services: ISS is closed Wednesday.

Intramural sports: All intramural sports are canceled Wednesday.

LGBTCC: The LGBT Campus Center is closed.

Lowell Hall: Lowell Hall rooms are open at a discount ($49 per night) to state and UW staff that are stuck on campus due to inclement weather.

Madison Metro: Metro service is suspended on Wednesday. Service will resume Thursday.

McBurney: The McBurney Disability Resource Center will be closed today. It will reopen Thursday.

Memorial Union: Memorial Union, markets and cafes will be closed on Wednesday. 

Morgridge Transportation: The Morgridge Center’s Volunteer Transporation Program cab rides are canceled for the day and will resume tomorrow for regularly, scheduled rides.

Morgridge Center Listening Sessions: Sessions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday have been postponed. New dates will be announced in the near future.

MSC: Nacho Average Wednesday, sponsored by the Multicultural Student Center (MSC) and hosted by Wisconsin Black Student Union (WBSU), scheduled for 12 p.m. Wednesday, has been canceled. It will be rescheduled.

The MSC itself will be closed Wednesday. This means that all scheduled events in the MSC will be canceled as well. Please contact the sponsors regarding rescheduling of their event.

Out and Abroad: LGBT Panel and Social sponsored by ISS, IAP, and LGBTCC, scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, has been canceled. It will be rescheduled.

RecSports: Rec Sports Facilities intend to stay open regular hours and all programs are on as scheduled.  Intramural Sports are canceled on Wednesday.

SAFE Walk and SAFE Ride: These programs will be closed Wednesday night.

School of Music: All classes, meetings, and events at the School of Music have been canceled on Wednesday. There will be no practice room access, and administrative offices will be closed throughout the day.

State Historical Society: The Wisconsin Historical Society’s Headquarters Building, including the Library and Archives, will be closed all day on Wednesday, February 2.   
 
The Library expects to reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Student Activity Center: The Student Activity Center will be closed on Wednesday. The SAC will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

University Apartments Community Center: Due to the weather and road conditions, the Community Center will be closing at 6 p.m.  The International Potluck and all other evening activities have been cancelled. The next International Potluck will be Wednesday, March 2.

• Snow Removal Update: Staff that were able to make it in to work today are working as hard as possible to keep the roadways open and at least a lane plowed in parking lots, but the blowing snow makes this an ongoing process .  We will get to sidewalks as weather conditions and time permits today, but realistically many sidewalks will not be cleared until tomorrow.  We are expecting temperatures well below zero tonight with dangerous wind chills. Salt will not work on roads or sidewalks until the temperatures are back up into the teens.  If you must travel, please do so with extreme caution- even roads that are plowed are snow covered and slippery.
• Dig your car out today if you can: Because the temperatures are expected to drop rapidly tonight, today will be the easiest day for you to dig out your car- later in the week it may be more iced in, which will make it harder to clear out.  Please do not put the snow into the roadway, but rather on any grassy area in front of your car.  There are a few shovels available to borrow in the Community Center entryway and at the Apartment Services office entryway.  If you have borrowed a shovel, please return it so others can use it.  If you have a shovel, please consider sharing it with a neighbor who may not have one.

University Health Services:  University Health Services will be open from 1-4 p.m. for urgent medical care only. All other scheduled appointments have been canceled. Complete details.

UW Health: All UW Health clinics are closed. Exceptions are clinics at 600 Highland Ave. and Wisconsin Dialysis that may have made prior arrangements with staff and patients.

Van Galder Bus: Van Galder has suspended campus service after 1 p.m. Tuesday due to snow. View additional details on schedules for Wednesday and beyond.

VIP: The Campus Information Center in the Red Gym and the Welcome Center at 21 N. Park Street will be closed Wednesday. This means that (608) 263-2400 and (608) 262-4636 will go to voicemail. AskBucky e-mail (askbucky@uwmad.wisc.edu) and AskBucky Live Chat will not be responded to. In addition, the operator escape for the automated University and State of Wisconsin phone directories will not be available (608) 262-1234 and (608) 266-2211. All campus tours have been canceled for tomorrow, as well. VIP will resume all regular operations on Thursday.

Wednesday Nite @ The Lab: Wednesday Nite @ The Lab for February 2 is cancelled and the presentation by David Gamm on stem cells and eye diseases will be rescheduled in March or April.

Wisconsin Union Theater: The Wisconsin Union Theater has canceled  “Page to Stage: The Comedy of Errors,” free Lecture with The Acting Company’s Staff Repertory Director Jesse Jou, scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, at University Theatre’s Mitchell Theater, 821 University Avenue.

The Acting Company’s performance of “The Comedy of Errors” will take place on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. as scheduled.
