Caroline Levine, associate professor in the Department of English, will receive the distinguished 2004 Perkins Prize, given by the Society for the Study of Narrative Literature, for her book “The Serious Pleasures of Suspense: Victorian Realism and Narrative Doubt.” (University of Virginia Press 2003). The $1,400 prize is awarded to the book author who makes the most significant contribution to the study of narrative in a given year.

Rick Lindroth, ecologist in the Department of Entomology, has received a five-year, $5 million Frontiers in Integrative Biological Research grant from the National Science Foundation to examine how the genetics of certain trees affect their ecosystems. The grant is divided among 10 collaborators in three countries.

Ronald T. Raines, professor of biochemistry and chemistry, has won the 2005 Emil Thomas Kaiser Award from the Protein Society. This award recognizes a significant contribution in applying chemistry to the study of proteins.

Elizabeth Rollman and Emily Hill, UW–Madison seniors, have been elected Junior Fellows of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. The students were mentored by faculty in the Department of Psychology, and received the fellowship based on their academic accomplishments to date and their promise of making future contributions in social science.
